5th Block | ANTISEZONA BOREALIS

Programme of contemporary dance performances, discussions and labs in Zagreb, Croatia

OPENING WORDS

Block 5 of the fifth year of ANTISEZONA is also the last block this year. As our bodies in cities, and those in forests alike, start calming down and preparing for a long dark winter, ANTISEZONA’s programme features crystal performances, causing a long ringing in our systems: in our retinas, ears, veins, during the upcoming hibernation.

The first niche we invite you to is the premiere of dance artists Anika Cetina and Valetina Miloš, This One: Misericordia. Mozart’s Requiem in D-minor, the issues of life and death, quest for meaning and acceptance pulsate from this work, rooted in the close friendship and association between the authors.

The second niche is the premiere of O, a follow-up on Sonja Pregrad’s collaboration with a group of artists: Ivana Bojanić, Viktorija Bubalo, Anna Javoran, Lana Hosni, Nika Pećarina and Eva Priečkova, with an extended team of collaborators: Bruna Jakupović, Liberta Mišan, Ema Kani, Lana Lephamer, Martina Gucić and Tea Kantoci. This production also presents Sonja Pregrad as a Creative Crossroads artist in this cycle of the EU Life Long Burning project. An interest in performance as a series of events, contingency of the performative moment, a body which non-human/other-human, open to sensory and sensual, a haptic stream of sound, set design and all the materialities present in space, follow up on the exploration of spectacle of the theatre medium, using Gorgona’s space as a given where nothing goes without saying and everything needs to be experienced to make sure it is real and really there.

The third niche, the performative installation Permanent Exhibition of the Present by the Federacija collective (Andreja Rauch Podrzavnik, Snježana Premuš and Gregor Kamnikar) is temporarily placed in museum spaces with a mission to transform the given environment into a direct experience of questioning the roles of everybody present. Who is a figure/exhibit, who sets, who observes? The niches are intertwined, manifold, inhabitable, possible, reversible.

The block closes with the fourth niche – a winter performance of The Saddest Method. Ever. – Performative Landscapes of Low Potential and High Risk by Umberto Lancia and Silvia Marchig/Kik Melone. In association with Slovenian photographer Sunčan Stone, in this (oh how sad) edition of Landscapes, the creatives invite us to daydream and fantasise about past performances, about dance inside our bodies and the one in the explosion of a dying star, at TALA PLE(j)S, a venue becoming our common reverie cocoon on the last evening of ANTISEZONA 2023.

In addition to the performances, on Saturday we invite you for a Hangover session, hosting a discussion on the pieces This One: Misericordia, O and Permanent Exhibition of the Present, and on Sunday for Open House, also part of the Life Long Burning project, with Valentina Miloš recounting her experience of taking part in Choreographic Turn in Ljubljana, and Pet na peta, a small closing celebration of this year’s ANTISEZONA.
