ANTISEZONA is a project which brings an all-year-round program of presentation and contextualization of contemporary dance and related performative practices to the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb and TALA PLE(j)S. It is led by dance artists Silvia Marchig, Sonja Pregrad, Iva Nerina Sibila and museologist Tea Kantoci.
ANTISEZONA is created through the development of our artistic (authorial, performative, educational) and curatorial practices / interests / intensities / needs and through the productive synergy of the capacities carried by our artistic organizations Divert, Kik Melone and Object of Dance, finding a partner in the central national institution of contemporary art in Croatia – the Museum of Contemporary Art.
We thus create a sustainable ecosystem (a constantly renewing network) of self-organization, partnership, inspiration, and care, affirming dance as a contextually sensitive, feminist, intermedial, inclusive, in every way experimental and open, yet always collaboratively envisioned and realized artistic practice.
ANTISEZONA (19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24) is recognized by the public as a new international epicenter of performing arts in Zagreb.
We anchor the program following our own intuitions and preoccupations/obsessions, spreading those fields towards our colleagues, inviting them for collaborations, guest performances, conversations, or for being together and sharing experiences. Thus, ANTISEZONA is not a festival, nor a production house, but a living (live, online, or telepathic) space in which dance, choreography, and performativity (of the body, image, text, sound, pixels, dreams) are confronted with the urgencies of contemporaneity and reality made from the pandemic dystopia, financial and structural collapses, as well as the ever-growing audience, new generations of artists who open the (anti)future through unexpected poetics.
ANTISEZONA was created in 2019 by five renowned Croatian dance artists, Silvia Marchig, Sonja Pregrad and Iva Nerina Sibila, its present directors, as well as Ana Kreitmeyer and Zrinka Šimičić Mihanović. It arose as a place of mutual support, of building a new contextual and production framework, and a meeting point of diverse poetics, initiatives, and people. The ANTISEZONA program brings returning performances, premieres, guest performances, an international festival of improvisation Improspections, the program Cyborgs Dance, as well as a number of experimental and developmental formats such as Close Encounters of the Dance Kind and Hangover Sessions. ANTISEZONA is a partner of the European project Life Long Burning, and the regional network Nomad Dance Academy.
