Second Skin, Third Ladies creates a series of performative situations with its choreographic and new media processes, connecting four locations (Rijeka, Split, Zagreb and Edinburgh) and six performers. The artistic origin was originally thought of as an identity and experience-based dialogue with marginalised female performance genres of the first half of the 20th century, such as circus sideshow and burlesque. The unpredictability of the process of creating a performance, caused by the pandemic and other troubles of 2020, resulted in a redirection of artistic intents, with the initial theme unobtrusively placing itself in the final framework of the piece – as an energetic, poetic, dance and experiential mirroring and interweaving of our very selves. The piece was created in various spaces in Rijeka and Split, in our rooms and kitchens, in bodily and virtual spaces, while performances of Second Skin, Third Ladies became a protective membrane for all the adopted and danced-in spaces, as well as all of our real, imagined, but also completely scattered identities and visualities.

Here, performance is a marker of existance in a fleeting world.
