BIOGRAPHY

Ghyslaine Gau is a choreographic artist from the Caribbean. Alongside her work as a performer, she has long developed physical practices in schools and medical-educational settings with marginalised audiences. Her research is deeply connected to Afro-feminist thought and engaged in a dynamic of deconstructing ‘colonial thinking’.

Ghyslaine Gau invites collaboration between different practices (body, sound, image, theory) and allows various formats to emerge (performance, installation, film, choreographic piece). Like dance, creation is for her a mode of survival, a methodology, a skill. Her research work is created from the dancing body and its poetic, political and spiritual dimensions. She envisions relationships as a space where questions arise, with the body remaining the place of transformation and expression.

Alongside her research work, Ghyslaine Gau continues to perform in others work. Recently she has collaborated with Kate Macintosh, Eszter Salamon, Alice Chauchat, Juan Dominguez and Arantxa Martinez, among others. She has been mentoring students in the EXERCE master’s programme for four years. She is a laureate of the Creative Crossroads programme of Life Long Burning 2025/2026 with the project S.U.T.U.R.E / Sourd Boucan.

SHOWING
S.U.T.U.R.E / Sourd Boucan

15h March 2026
18:00, TALA PLE(j)S, Radnička cesta 27, Zagreb, Croatia

The word “suture” literally means “to sew”. In anatomy, a suture is a stitch that connects tissues that have generally been separated by accident. It is often rigid and sometimes superimposed, but it always holds without erasing differences. Inspired by the anatomical meaning of the word “suture”—to sew, to bring together—this project proposes a method of articulation that allows different practices, temporalities, and forms of knowledge to coexist without being homogenized. S.U.T.U.R.E creates a space in which two distinct and complementary methodologies can interact, remain open, and coexist. SOURD BOUCAN is one of them. It is a multidimensional installation where slow transformation and  sudden bursts of energy coexist. A space where bodies, breath, and sounds spiral, interact, and mutate continuously.

SOURD BOUCAN engages the senses and attempts to make the invisible tangible by vibrating the space in-between, by resonating the internal.

For this solo residency, I will continue my exploration of physical practices in dialogue with the trumpet. I would like to delve deeper, shape the sound material, and introduce the voice into the vibratory field.
