gergő d. farkas
14th – 25th September 2026
Zagreb, Croatia

We are happy to announce gergő d. farkas, who will be visiting Zagreb for an Artistic Exchange Residency, a programme organized as part of the Life Long Burning Creative Europe project.
While they are in Zagreb, gergő will be in residency at TALA PLE(j)S to work on their projects (14th – 25th September), will hold a workshop for all levels of skill (17th and 21st September) and have a showing of their work in making, Ogre-Tex (24th September).
WORKSHOP
During these open studio sessions, participants are invited to warm up together and to fool around with gergő’s current artistic practice. Together, we will be nurturing strange organs inside the body, allow ourselves to be haunted by goblins, and attempt to use the felt sense of the body to build worlds.
SHOWING
Named after Gore-Tex, the famous waterproof fabric membrane keeping nature and culture separated since 1969, gergő d. farkas is proud to introduce Ogre-Tex, a set of fantasies designed to articulate a membrane between a subject and its environment that is blurry and porous, allowing a constant flux between the parts it seemingly separates. From a dualist perspective, Ogre-Tex is absolutely useless, which is probably what makes it a little dangerous and kind of queer.
In this short work-in-progress presentation, gergő will try and fail and try and fail and try to find new ways to build worlds through weaving together fantasies with the felt knowledge of the body. Haunted by a fairy tale creature’s anatomy, they’ll seek ways to cultivate a body that feels more, loves harder, and stays in touch with the world, in ways a little dirty, and a little mischievous.
BIOGRAPHY
gergő d. farkas is a gathering of cells with a passion for choreography, dance, romance and mischief. Being lost in Vienna, Budapest, Stockholm, or somewhere in between, they dream of belonging to sensual spaces where not only humans are invited to dance. By merging somatics with practices of world-building, gergő desires to entangle the fantastic and the material in pursuit of a body that feels more and loves harder.
Their choreographic work has been presented in venues and festivals such as Zürcher Theater Spektakel (CH), Spring Forward Festival (GR, IT), Imagetanz (AT), TQW’s RAKETE (AT), Trafó House of Contemporary Arts (HU), under500 Festival (HU), Dansehallerne (DK), MDT Moderna Dansteatern (SE), Réplika Teatro (SE), Open House Festival (CY), MDT Legacy Festival (NL), and Dansmakers Amsterdam (NL), amongst others. Their first work, Deep Fake has been a part of the Aerowaves Twenty22 as well as the DunaPart 2023 selections, and was nominated for the ZKB Acknowledgement Prize (CH), while their second work, babes was selected for Aerowaves Twenty25 and nominated for the Rudolf Lábán Award (HU).
Besides dance performances, gergő’s choreographic and movement practices manifest in open-level workshops. As a teacher and facilitator, they collaborated with Paso a 2 (ES), Sín Arts Centre (HU), Höjden (SE), Dance Cork, Firkin Crane (IE), and worked as one of the travelling artists of Creative Europe’s program Performing Gender / Dancing in Your Shoes. Together with Balázs Oláh and Júlia Vavra, they organise queer-inclusive Hungarian folk dance and other movement workshops under the name W*tches and F*gs.
In 2021, gergő received the DanceWeb Scholarship (AT), under the mentorship of Frederic Gies and Anne Juren. As a performer, they’ve worked with Cullberg (SE), Frederic Gies, Kata Juhász, Veza Fernandez, Ofelia Jarl Ortega, Karin Pauer, Alma Söderberg, SERAFINE1369, Viktor Szeri, Alex Franz Zehetbauer, amongst others. Between 2021 and 2022, they were a member of the Budapest-based queer collective OMOH.
gergő holds a BA in Contemporary Dance from the Amsterdam University of the Arts (MTD department) and an MFA in Choreography from the Stockholm University of the Arts.
