selma banich and Group for New Folk Practices
participatory programme
We envision this gathering as a three-hour experiential workshop for participants of the Choreographic Convention in Zagreb, where we will explore the voice as a medium of community, as a resource and repository of our individual and collective experiences, states, and emotions. Working with the voice through breath, sound, and resonance, we will descend into the “pit” and carefully listen to our inner “canary”. By collectively breaking the silence, we will activate a space for gentle practices of active surrender, release, and reception. What do voices reveal when the silence is interrupted?
Looking critically at the concepts of resilience and sustainability used to normalize human and non-human suffering under capitalism, the Glasovi / Voices speak of individual and collective experiences of trauma, fragility as an experience of radical resistance, and healing as a tool for social change and liberation.
Glasovi / Voices is created in collaboration with selma banich, Lana Hosni, Sara Salamon, Adam Semijalac, and participants of experiential workshops, continuing the artistic research of Ode zemlja u led’nu, svak ti šuti istinu and the audio work Ustenjavanje naroda performed by the Group for New Folk Practices.
The workshop is open to all interested participants of the Choreographic Convention. Please confirm your participation by Monday, 11th November 2024, at the address antisezona@gmail.com. The working language of the program is English, with the possibility of translation upon prior request.
The event is organized in collaboration with the Somatic Laboratory for Voice Matters.
