23rd to 25th June 2026 | Contemporary Dance Atelier, Karlovac, Croatia
The residency, as part of the summer edition of Karlovac Dance Festival, brings together prominent dance artists and authors and is happening with the organisational and artistic support of Free Dance, a longtime partner of Nomad Dance Academy Croatia. The activities are dedicated to the second phase of working on the monography Mapping the Work of Nomad Dance Academy Croatia (NDA CRO).
The residency in Karlovac is primarily focused on media content (photos and videos), as well as the process of collective writing, reflecting and the concept of a plurality of voices. Different authorial voices and perspectives, equally valued and important, intertwine with each other through live discussion.
PLURALITY OF VOICES, MEDIA CONTENT AND PARTICIPATIVE DRAMATURGY
The work on the publication is set up through a creative process which explores:
- Communal knowledge and nomadic pedagogy – innovative, non-institutional models of learning and knowledge transfer developed through the programmes of NDA CRO;
- Participative dramaturgy – forms of collective creation that shapes the structure of the book in an organic way, as a result of a living, collaborative process and cocreation of all participants. Participants of the event, by reflecting over individual text materials, introduce additions to the text such as authorial notes, reflections and new critical reviews.
THE BOOK AS A CONTINUATION OF THE PHILOSOPHY OF TOGETHERNESS
The monography is conceptualised as an undertaking which reflects the very principles of NDA CRO: collaborative work and mobility, action informed by feminism and ecology, as well as a regional and European networking.
The authors (dance artists, educators and producers) connect the documented materials and reflections, turning the process of making a book into a continuation of the philosophy of togetherness within a published format.
15 YEARS OF INDEPENDENT DEVELOPMENT AND THE ARCHIVAL ASPECT
The central goal is to document and valorise fifteen years of NDA CRO’S activities, showing the development of contemporary dance in Croatia through an authentic and relevant angle.

The event is produced by Free Dance, as part of the Karlovac Dance Festival programme and the Life Long Burning project.
