2nd block | IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE TO THIS GROUND WHETHER WE FALL OR RISE

OPENING WORDS

Just as time is indifferent to whether we are in it or outside it, and light is indifferent to whether it refracts on an object or not, so too is the ground indifferent to whether we fall, rise, or remain lying down—whether peacefully, restlessly, in an effort, or in surrender.

The second block of this year’s ANTISEZONA runs from 26 June to 13 July across four venues, featuring an international programme and ten performative-discursive events.

The programme opens with a reprise of the solo Object of Dance, in which, using drag, Sonja Pregrad multiplies the reflection of herself and the audience in mirrors, posing the question: ‘what is dance, and what else can it be?’. Ivana Bojanić and Viktoria Bubalo’s We Were Not Here is based on an ‘unexplained fascination with the image of the body and a presence that diverges from itself and the space’, while Silvia Marchig’s Eurydice Exits is this year’s premiere, developing around the motifs of doubt, death and perseverance.

The international programme begins at Pogon with the performance The Ruin is a Tale by the young Portuguese artist Sancha Meca Castro and follows ‘an interest in ruins as places of transformation, which expands in the tension between the idea of the fossilisation of gestures and their disintegration’. Michael Turinsky, a choreographer, performer and theorist from Vienna, is one of today’s most influential artists working with the specific phenomenology of the body labeled as “disabled”. On the main stage of the Zagreb Youth Theatre, he will perform the solo show Precarious Moves, continues his investigation of resistant choreographic gestures through designing choreo-political aesthetics.

The continuous ANTISEZONA programmes, the improvisational performance Gorgona Burns Bitter and Crimson, in which the artists performing in this block – Sonja Pregrad, Ivana Bojanić, Sancha Meca Castro, Silvia Marchig will meet on stage ….., artist’s talks with guests and audience in the Hangover Sessions and the book club, The 11 Foxes Society, round off this summer block.

The instabilities of the performing body, the displacements of perceptual vantage points, and the poetics of vanishing in this block invite liminoid experiences, ontological in-betweens, and impossible relations. The exits always remain open, with the ground that welcomes us in its indifferent, unchanging steadfastness.
