Existence is not an individual affair. Individuals do not preexist their interactions; rather, individuals emerge through and as part of their entangled intra-relating . Which is not to say that emergence happens once and for all, as an event or as a process that takes place according to some external measure of space and of time, but rather that time and space, like matter and meaning, come into existence, are iteratively reconfigured through each intra-action, thereby making it impossible to differentiate in any absolute sense between creation and renewal, beginning and returning, continuity and discontinuity, here and there, past and future.

Sol is the materialisation of ‘all the Silvias’ derived from mapping past works and her experience of many years performing on the dance scene. In this play, which suggests meaning, it is partially left to collective inscription – inviting viewers to construct meaning.

The generated insights are conditioned by individual experiences and expectations of each spectator who decides to participate in this ephemeral act of communication, where the costume becomes a building block of everything material (scenes) and immaterial (identity) in the performance.

Sol emerges during 2020 under the influence of uncertainty and insecurity caused by pandemic and tectonic disturbances: the literal ones, in the Earth’s crust, as well as the social ones that hint at feelings about the rearrangement of value systems in us and everywhere around.

I recognize my anchor in the authenticity of live performance and immerse myself in it, observing how I act on the social and historical connotations of the ‘female solo’ format, and what those connotations do to me, in performances and beyond. I leave it to the audience to inscribe symbolism, meaning and references. Some I am aware of, some are out of my control.

The ghosts of previous works appearing in the performance: Carousel (Japelj, Marchig) This is (not) my Forest (Govedić, Japelj, Marchig), Deer (Trafik; Alvir, Banich, Čuljak, Liverić, Lupi, Marchig, Svetopetrić), Glacier (Horvat, Marchig, pavleheidler, Pregrad) and The Saddest Piece. Ever. (Gutić Mižimakov, Lancia, Marchig, Sibila, Vodenica) and costumes by Andrijana Botica, Oliver Jularić and Iztok Hrga.

The piece is dedicated to these collaborations and the love they aroused.
